Lindsey’s, Inc. was begun in 1948 by Newnan native, Lindsey Hand Barron, a World War II Navy veteran who was in action at Iwo Jima, Okinawa and Guam. He saw the American flag raised in Iwo Jima.He was, also, a Newnan Coweta Citizen of The Year and Citizen of the Half-Century.In the beginning, the company was a Pepsi Cola bottling company over 16 counties based in Newnan and, later, he opened an electrical and plumbing contracting business as well.Eventually the company changed into a furniture and appliances store with real estate brokerage and insurance as side businesses in the back of the furniture store.
Finally, the other businesses were sold, and the company became a full-time real estate and insurance business located at 12 Jackson Street.Later, The Hartford Insurance Agency was sold and Lindsey’s, Inc. became solely a local independent real estate brokerage.
Lindsey Barron’s sons, Chip and Frank Barron purchased the real estate brokerage business from their father in 1978.Chip Barron was first licensed in 1968 while in college at Emory University, and, prior to attending law school at Mercer University. Chip practiced law for three years before returning to the family business in 1977. He has been a member of the Georgia Bar since 1974. Chip obtained his Real Estate Broker’s license in 1978. Both Frank and Chip are, also, licensed Alabama Real Estate Brokers.In 1991, the company expanded and moved into its present location at 14 Jackson Street.
Frank Barron was first licensed in 1969 and majored in real estate at The University of Georgia.Frank served as the Qualifying Broker from 1978 to 2020 before turning that position over to Chip.Frank, also, served as a Regional Vice President of the Georgia Association of Realtors, and as a Lieutenant Governor of the Georgia Kiwanis Clubs in 1982-1983.
Both Chip and Frank are members of the Newnan Coweta Board of Realtors and are members of it’s Hall of Fame.Both are Golden Phoenix members with each of them achieving over 30 years of Million Dollar Club awards.Both have the GRI designation. Chip and Frank both are, also, Realtor Emeritus of the National Association of Realtors with over 50 years as a realtor.
Chip and Frank have served in many civic organizations over the years.They have both been President of the Newnan-Coweta Board of Realtors (Frank twice), the local United Way and the Newnan Kiwanis Club.Both are deacons of the First Baptist Church of Newnan.Frank also served on the Board of Directors for the local YMCA and The Heritage School and served on the Board of Trustees for The Foundation of Wesley Woods.
Both Chip and Frank have served as Chairman of the Board of The Newnan Coweta Chamber of Commerce. Chip served on the board of Newnan Savings Bank and First Citizens Bank.He, also, served the local advisory board of BB&T until its merger with SunTrust.Frank served on the board of the First Union Bank and the Bank of Coweta (now Synovus). Chip was Chairman of the Board of Newnan Hospital for five years and was on that board for thirteen years.He, also, served as President of the Central Health Council for Newnan and Coweta County, as well as the local Chapter of the American Red Cross.He was Kiwanian of the Year in 2018 and Realtor of the year in 1991.Chip serves on The Board of Directors of Georgia MLS (since 1991) and on the Executive Committee as well.
Frank was chosen as Citizen of the Year in Newnan and Coweta County in 2014.He was the Newnan-Coweta Jaycees Young Man of the Year in 1980.Frank was local Kiwanian of the Year in 1983.Frank recently was able to start an annual scholarship honoring his Newnan High School classmate, Jerome Dunson who died in 2020.
Frank is an avid hunter and fisherman and received the ‘Mother Duck’ award from Duck’s Unlimited in 1982.Chip is a golfer and enjoys history, especially local history.
Frank’s son, Jess Barron, who is an Associate Broker and Chip’s son, Tom Barron, are both a vital part of Lindsey’s, Inc.The third generation of Lindsey’s, Inc. is very special, having both served as President of the Newnan Coweta Board of Realtors (NCBOR).Jess is also on the Board of Directors of The Heritage School and a board member of The Foundation of Wesley Woods, and a member of The Newnan Housing Authority.Tom was NCBOR Realtor of the Year in 2012.Tom was NCBOR’s Top Producer in 2020 and 2021.Jess was NCBOR’s Humanitarian of the Year in 2015 and was named Realtor of the Year for NCBOR in 2018.
Presently, Lindsey’s, Inc. has 28 agents and three administrative assistants, Dianne Ferrell is the Office Manager, and Mary Harris is the head of the Financial Department.Kim Ivery serves an Administrative Assistant to Tom Barron and assists others when needed.Associate Broker Jodie Shepard served on the Georgia Real Estate Commission board.Also, agents Don Phillips and Mike Barber have both been Newnan-Coweta Citizens of the Year.
