Part of the historic downtown district of Newnan, 7 Jackson Street has hosted a wide variety of businesses throughout the years, making it a key piece in understanding Newnan’s history. Original documentation dates back to 1885, when the building housed a general store, a sewing machine store, and a general merchandise store until 1900. The bricks that the building was constructed from were actually made on-site. From 1900 to 1906, the general store continued alongside a Chinese laundry business and a carriage repository. By 1911, the carriage repository had become a buggy storage unit, while the other business remained.
1936 marked the industrialization of the downtown, as the building’s tenant was an auto parts company. By 1949, 7 Jackson Street held Mrs. Dell P. Leverett’s Restaurant, followed briefly by an ice cream shop. From the 1950s through the 1980s, 7 Jackson Street housed a shoe repair shop. When renovating the building, a plaster wall was found that documented who owned money to the shoe repair shop. From 1990 to 2016, La Fiesta, Newnan’s fit Mexican Restaurant, operated at 7 Jackson Streetm until it became One Eleven in the 2020s. The building now is in transition and on the market.
